The 2014-15 English Speaking Day 1, jointly organized by the Enhancing English Environment Team (EEE Team) and the English Society, was held on 8 December 2014. The theme this time was “Together we Share our TWGSS’ Got Talent”. Seeing that students prepared whole-heartedly for the annual event “TWGSS’ Got Talents”, the EEE Team and the English Society are pleased that it furthered students’ sense of belonging to the whole, as they reflected on the roles they played, the experience they gained and the lessons they learned in the preparation process as they chatted, cooperated and shared ideas with classmates. A chatting activity was also held, as usual, and a total number of 11,666 chats were recorded by all S1-6 students during the morning, recess and lunch sessions. Even though notebooks were offered as prizes for enthusiastic speakers, the low redemption rate of prizes proved that students chatted to improve their English speaking skills, and not purely for the prizes.
Apart from boosting students’ confidence in English speaking, communications skills as well as social skills were developed through this meaningful activity.
