The 1st HK Secondary School Cosmetic Formulation Competition

A team of three S.5 Chemistry students (YU Ting-lam 5A(19), HUI Tsz-shun 5D(4) and HUI Cheuk-hin 5D(24)), mentored by Ms CHAN Kit-ting, participated in the 1st Hong Kong Secondary School Cosmetic Formulation Competition 2021. The students first attended a laboratory session in June to learn about some experimental skills in developing new cosmetic formulations. With a set of complimentary cosmetic ingredients provided, they designed formulations and fabricated lipstick, face cream and face cleanser. Based on the samples of cosmetic products prepared, video and written report, six participating teams were shortlisted out of more than thirty teams.

The final-round competition was held in September in the City University of Hong Kong. The students made a brilliant presentation to the judging panel and had an outstanding performance in the Q&A session, and reaped the Merit Award. The students reflected that the experience was very rewarding and they developed a strong interest cosmetic science after the contest.
