Amid ongoing concerns about young people’s mental health and well-being, the ability to cope with setbacks, adapt, and move forward in a productive way is key to having positive well-being and attaining future success. A Setback Education Workshop was organised for our S4 students in January 2026. During the workshop, students engaged in teamwork games and individual missions with a view to enhancing their understanding of the difference between ‘setback’ and ‘failure’, the significance of growth mindset and how setbacks could be seen as opportunities for learning and growth. Students were given chances to reflect on their thoughts and feelings when confronted with challenges. All in all, students gave highly positive feedback about the workshop. The majority of the students agreed that the workshop was inspirational and reminded them that one's capabilities are not inherent and can be strengthened by endeavour and experience.
