The 2026 Nanjing-Yangzhou-Suzhou Historical, Cultural and Sister-School Exchange Programme was organized for a total of 36 S3 to S5 students from 26 to 30 September 2026. Our principal, assistant principal, and three accompanying teachers led the students across Nanjing, Yangzhou, and Suzhou. This five-day journey seamlessly integrated educational exchanges with memorable cultural explorations across the Jiangnan region.
Upon arrival in Nanjing, the students visited the prestigious Nanjing Museum (南京博物院) to admire its extensive collection of historical artifacts. Later, they travelled to Yangzhou, where they experienced local nightlife during a scenic tour of Dongguan Ancient Street (東關街). The next day, the group immersed themselves in Yangzhou's famous morning tea custom before touring the breathtaking Slender West Lake Scenic Area (瘦西湖風景區) and the China Grand Canal Museum (中國大運河博物館), learning about ancient waterway heritage. In the afternoon, the team travelled onward to Zhangjiagang (張家港).
The highlight of the exchange occurred on 28 and 29 September in Zhangjiagang (張家港). Students explored nearby natural sites, including the Xiangshan Scenic Area (香山風景區) and an adjacent Ecological Park (生態園), before participating in joint activities at our sister school, Zhangjiagang Chongzhen Middle School (張家港市崇真中學). TWGSS students attended academic classes alongside their local student buddies to experience the learning environment firsthand, while teachers conducted fruitful professional exchanges on pedagogical methods. On the afternoon of 29 September, the group journeyed to Suzhou, where they visited the Suzhou Museum (蘇州博物館), enjoyed an authentic Suzhou Pingtan (蘇州評彈) performance, and crafted intangible cultural heritage lacquer fans (漆扇), followed by an evening walk along Pingjiang Road Pedestrian Street (平江路歷史街區).
On Wednesday, 30 September, the students explored the iconic Humble Administrator’s Garden (拙政園). Finally, they travelled to Shanghai Pudong International Airport for their flight back to Hong Kong, arriving safely in the evening
All in all, the students benefited greatly from their five-day trip to Nanjing, Yangzhou, and Suzhou. Teachers from both regions promoted professional development through joint observations and experience sharing, while the Sister-School Exchange Programme successfully strengthened bonds between the schools. Through exploring the Chinese Mainland's social development, historical sites, and living traditions, TWGSS students broadened their horizons, cultivated strong moral character, and developed a deeper sense of national identity and belonging.
