The Micro:bit Model Hovercraft Competition is a 4-hour, interactive STEAM learning and hands-on session at school. The event aims to arouse students’ interest in STEAM education during the post-examination period. Teachers and tutors provide a step-by-step guide on making hovercraft and explain STEM concepts behind it. Students worked in teams to practise the engineering cycle: design, create, test, and optimize. Finally, each group built their hovercraft controlled by a joystick, and the hovercrafts took part in a competition. The winner was the fastest hovercraft that finished a lap. Students enjoyed the competition and could apply their knowledge of motion to solve real-life problems.
