The preliminary round of English Debating Competition was held on 29 May 2024.
The competition was conducted on a knockout basis. Winning teams of each contest are qualified for the final round of the competition in July. In Contest 1, the affirmative side Pine House beat the opposition side Plum House on the motion “In times of economic crisis, this house would abolish the minimum wage”. In Contest 2, the affirmative side Bamboo House beat the opposition side Camphor House on the motion “This house believes that the elderly are better taken care of in nursing homes than living with their children”.
Having undergone the intense debates and interrogations, awards were presented to the winning teams and the best debaters, CHOW Anna Kate of Class 3A and WONG Pak-fai Matthew of Class 5D.
Students were incredibly inspired by the remarkable performances. It is hoped that through English Debating competitions, their language proficiency, communication skills and analytical skills could be heightened.
