The Micro:bit Model Hovercraft Competition was a 4-hour, interactive STEAM learning and hands-on session at school. The event aimed to arouse students’ interest in STEAM education during the post-examination period. Teachers and tutors provided a step-by-step guide to making hovercraft and explained STEM concepts behind. Students worked in teams to practise the engineering cycle: design, create, test, and optimize. Finally, each group built their hovercraft controlled with a joystick, and the hovercrafts took part in a competition. The winner was the fastest hovercraft that finished a lap. Students enjoyed the competition and could apply their knowledge of motion to solve real-life problems.
