The History, Music and Visual Arts Departments organized a 10-day study tour to Poland and Germany from 2 July to 11 July 2024. As the second half of the 10-day study tour, the group of 44 teachers and students visited vibrant cities and towns in Germany.
When in Berlin, students toured around Hackescher Markt and Museum Island, getting a glimpse into the perfectly balanced ancient and modern styles of the city. Following a panoramic view of the city from the top of Berlin Cathedral, students headed to the Brandenburg Gate and had the privilege to stand on the meadows where the European Cup 2024 was streamed live. Other guided visits in Berlin included the East Side Gallery, Berlin Wall Memorial, Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Reichstag Building, Checkpoint Charlie, and Gemäldegalerie.
Students also made brief stops in two nearby cities. In Dresden, they appreciated the Italian Renaissance works as well as Dutch and Flemish paintings at the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister (Old Masters Picture Gallery). The guided city walk introduced them to the Baroque architectural style in Germany. In Potsdam, students learned more about Prussian King Frederick the Great at his summer palace, Sanssouci, which features beautiful Rococo-style architecture and a magnificent palace garden.
Overall, students gained memorable experiences during the 10-day study tour. Their active participation in asking meaningful and thought-provoking questions suggests the tour was highly rewarding in terms of knowledge enrichment and personal growth.
